Blackrock Mountain cliffs stand out just above the Blue Ridge Divide. Rising above the forests of Nantahala National Forest as part of the defining border between Macon and Jackson counties near Highlands and Cashiers, the mountain’s exposed granite and gneiss rock formations create a striking contrast against the vertical hardwood forest. Seen here with peak autumn colors, the landscape is ablaze with brilliant hues of red, orange, and gold, accentuating the dramatic rock faces. This aerial view captures the breathtaking scenery of Western North Carolina’s mountain peaks and the vibrant seasonal transformation of the highlands.
